When it comes to needing the facts about Hanford news, it’s best to get it from the source. But with so many outlets to get information, it can be hard to know who to trust. Hanford Communities shares our preferred sources for Hanford news and updates.
Years ago, there were only a handful of sources we’d turn to for our news: TV, newspaper, and perhaps occasionally radio. Now, there are countless broadcasts, podcasts, streams, magazines, channels, newspapers and social media platforms to choose from. In an era of “fake news” and biased reporting, how do we know what’s fact?
First, it’s important to look at our behavior patterns. Research shows that the average adult spends nearly 3 hours per day on their mobile device. Additionally, 22% of us check our phones every few minutes, with 51% of users looking at it a few times per hour. That’s a lot of time and attention. Data suggests it’s safe to assume a portion of that time is likely spent on social media platforms like Facebook and others.
Next, consider that traditional cable television and newspaper subscribers have decreased substantially in recent years in favor of streaming devices and digital platforms. This tells us it’s statistically more likely that people are getting their news from web-based sources and social media than traditional means (TV, radio, print).
For Hanford, Tri-Cities and the greater Mid-Columbia, there’s obviously not a lot you’re going to hear about from national news broadcasts. So when it comes to our local community, we suggest turning to your local government partners and news affiliates, who stick to the facts. And the best part? Most of these groups are on social media, which means they’re easily accessible. Here are some of our trusted sources for Hanford news and updates…
